Skier Responsibility Code

Let’s Enjoy the Mountain Safely

Safety at Valle Nevado depends on everyone. Before entering the slopes, familiarize yourself with the mountain conditions, respect all signage, and always follow the instructions of our team.

These rules are designed to protect you, fellow skiers and snowboarders, and everyone who works on the mountain every day.

Before You Begin

Check the Mountain Report
Before heading up, check the road conditions, slope and lift status, as well as the weather forecast and operational updates. Remember that mountain conditions may change throughout the day.

Choose slopes that match your ability level
Follow the difficulty levels indicated by the color codes. Do not enter slopes or areas beyond your experience or skill level.

Always wear a helmet
A helmet is essential for your safety. Make sure it fits properly before entering the slopes.

Check your equipment
Make sure your boots, bindings, skis, or snowboard are in good condition. If you snowboard, always use a leash.

Stay hydrated
Valle Nevado is located at over 3,000 meters (9,840 ft) above sea level. Drink water throughout the day, rest when needed, and pay attention to how you feel.

Safety on the Slop

Stay in Control
You must always be able to control your speed and direction, stop when necessary, and avoid other people or obstacles.

Adjust Your Speed
Consider snow conditions, visibility, slope steepness, and the number of people on the slope.

Respect the Right of Way
Skiers and snowboarders ahead of you or downhill from you have the right of way. Keep a safe distance to allow them to move freely.

Pass with Caution
You may pass on either side, provided you maintain a safe distance and do not interfere with the other skier’s or snowboarder’s path.

Look Before Entering
Before starting downhill, entering a slope, or crossing one, make sure you can do so safely without putting others at risk.

Stop in a Visible Place
Avoid stopping at intersections, changes in slope, narrow sections, blind spots, or areas with limited visibility.

Keep Your Equipment Under Control
Prevent skis, snowboards, or other equipment from sliding away unattended. Use all brakes and safety devices correctly.

Do Not Walk on the Slopes
The slopes are intended for skiers and snowboarders. If you need to move without your equipment, use only designated areas and follow staff instructions.

Signage and Open Area

Respect All Signs
Closures, boundaries, safety nets, and signs are in place to protect you. Never remove, move, or cross any safety barriers or protective equipment.

Stay on Open Slopes
Use only the areas designated as open. A closed slope may present hazards that are not visible to visitors.

Do Not Cross Closures
Even if you see tracks or other people beyond a closure, do not enter. Always wait for the official opening by the Valle Nevado team.

Do Not Leave the Ski Area
The resort boundaries are clearly marked. Outside these limits, the terrain may not be prepared, monitored, marked, or protected from the inherent risks of the mountain.

Follow Staff Instructions
Always follow the directions of ski patrol, slope maintenance staff, lift operators, and all other members of the Valle Nevado team.

Avalanche Prevention Controls

Do Not Enter Before Opening
During the early morning hours and before operations begin, preventive work may be carried out to assess and control snow conditions.

Respect Closed Areas
If you find an access point closed or marked with signs, do not enter to ski, snowboard, ski tour, or perform any other activity.

Wait for Official Authorization
An area can only be considered open when Valle Nevado officially announces its opening. The presence of snow or tracks does not mean that an area is safe.

In Case of an Accident

Do Not Move the Person
Avoid moving the person unless there is an immediate danger at the scene.

Protect and Mark the Area
Position yourself in a visible location and warn people coming downhill to prevent another accident.

Report Immediately
Contact the Ski Patrol Rescue Team or inform the nearest Valle Nevado team member.

Provide Clear Information
Indicate the slope, area, visible landmarks, and the number of people involved.

Do Not Leave the Scene
If you were involved in or witnessed an accident, remain available until you have provided the necessary information to the safety staff.

Respect and Coexistence

Respect Those Around You
Maintain responsible behavior with other visitors, beginners, children, instructors, and resort staff.

Avoid Risky Behavior
Do not perform maneuvers that may put others at risk. Reduce your speed especially in beginner areas, crossings, and crowded sections.

Take Care of Your Belongings
Keep your equipment identified and stored in the designated areas. Do not leave it blocking entrances, terraces, slopes, or circulation areas.

Take Care of the Mountain
Do not leave trash or waste on slopes, lifts, or common areas. Use the available waste containers.

Respect the Infrastructure
Take care of signs, safety nets, lifts, gates, and all other Valle Nevado facilities.

Ski Lifts

Respect the Boarding Order
Wait your turn and follow the operators’ instructions. Do not push or attempt to pass other passengers.

Prepare Before Boarding
Keep your poles, backpack, and equipment under control before entering the boarding area.

Do Not Perform Unsafe Actions
During the ride, remain properly seated and do not swing the chair, throw objects, or raise the safety bar before reaching the designated area.

Ask for Help When Needed
If you are a beginner or need assistance boarding or getting off, inform the operator before entering.

Authorized Ski School and Lessons

Take Lessons with Authorized Instructors
Ski or snowboard lessons may only be provided by instructors authorized by the Valle Nevado Ski & Snowboard School.

Do Not Hire Unauthorized Lessons
Unauthorized lessons may interfere with operations, the use of learning slopes, and the safety of other visitors.

The terms of use establish that tickets may not be used to provide lessons or carry out unauthorized paid activities. Failure to comply may result in the removal or suspension of access.

Responsible Use of Tickets and Passes

Your Ticket Is Personal
Once used, the ticket or pass is personal and non-transferable. Do not lend, give away, rent, or resell it.

Use the Correct Category
Each person must have the ticket or pass that corresponds to their age and product type.

Enter with Your Face Visible
Do not cover your face or obstruct the access gate cameras.

Use Your Card Correctly
Do not enter using another person’s card or attempt to use the same ticket simultaneously at different access points.

Sanctions and Consequences

Failure to comply with safety rules, staff instructions, or terms of use may result, depending on the severity, in:

  • Warning and removal from the area.
  • Temporary suspension of the ticket or pass.
  • Permanent suspension.
  • Ticket cancellation or suspension of its benefits.
  • Suspension for the remainder of the season.
  • Expulsion or restriction from entering the resort.

These measures may be applied in cases of risky or aggressive behavior, misuse of tickets, entry into closed areas, failure to comply with safety rules, or carrying out unauthorized commercial activities.

Rescues Outside the Ski Area

Leaving the slopes or designated ski area means assuming the risks associated with the activity and any costs that may arise from a potential rescue operation.

Mountain safety depends on everyone

Respect the rules, follow the instructions from our team, and make responsible decisions. This way, we can all enjoy a better experience together at Valle Nevado.
